President Bola Tinubu has officially approved the appointment of Lamido Yuguda as the new Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). The nomination, which is subject to Senate confirmation, was made in accordance with Section 8(1) of the CBN Act of 2007.
Mr. Yuguda steps into the role following the transition of the former Deputy Governor, Bala Bello, who has been reassigned as the Special Adviser to the President on Political Economy.
Lamido Yuguda is a seasoned financial regulator and economist with decades of experience in the Nigerian and international financial sectors.
Key Career Highlights:
SEC Leadership: Served as the Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) from 2020 to 2024.
International Experience: Worked as an economist in the Africa Department of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) between 1997 and 2001.
CBN Veteran: Began his career at the CBN in 1984, eventually retiring in 2016 after a six-year tenure as the Director of the Reserve Management Department.
Mr. Yuguda is an alumnus of Ahmadu Bello University, where he earned a B.Sc. in Accountancy in 1983. He also holds a Master’s degree in Money, Banking, and Finance from the University of Birmingham, UK. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and a CFA charterholder.
