In a major victory for the Joint Task Force (North East), Nigerian troops have neutralized at least 20 members of the Boko Haram/ISWAP extremist group. Among the dead is a high-ranking commander identified as Abu Yusu, the Munzir of Dursula, who was killed during a fierce encounter in the Goniri Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State.

The multi-day operation, which began on Monday night, March 9, 2026, saw military forces repel coordinated attempts by the terrorists to encircle tactical positions near the Ngamdu junction.

According to Lt. Col. Sani Uba, Media Information Officer for Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), the insurgents launched an aggressive advance from Goniri village. However, the military responded with superior firepower and strategic air support.

Key Outcomes of the Engagement:

  • Casualties: 20 terrorists confirmed dead, including Commander Abu Yusu.

  • Recovered Assets: Troops seized weapons, ammunition, and Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) abandoned by retreating forces.

Current Status: Follow-up operations are currently active in the "Timbuktu Triangle" and Gwaigomari to flush out surviving remnants.

While some soldiers sustained injuries during the heavy exchange of fire, Lt. Col. Uba confirmed they have been evacuated and are currently in stable condition.
